From capacity to clarity.
Modular design meets smart hydration.

Discover the design story

Overview

MORVA is a modular smart bottle that adapts to your lifestyle. It expands from 700ml to 1.5L, cleans itself with a UV-C lid, and reminds you to hydrate through a subtle glowing ring. This system also includes a companion app UI to help track hydration, customize reminders, and simplify daily routines.

Optional companion UI for tracking

RESEARCH AND INSIGHTS

Through user research and market scans, I identified 3 key insights… MORVA started with a simple observation: most water bottles are built around product constraints, not user behavior.

One size doesn't fit all.

Hydration is easily forgotten.

Bottles are hard to clean.

3D DESIGN AND REFINEMENT

After finalizing the direction, I built the product in 3D using Blender. The focus was on translating the concept accurately while keeping the form clean, modular, and manufacturable. Details like the LED ring, UV-C cap, and threaded expansion zone were modeled with care to balance aesthetics with function.

IDEATION AND
CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT

Before jumping into 3D, I explored how a smart bottle might look, feel, and work in real life. I wanted it to stay simple and intuitive, without relying on screens or overcomplicated features. The focus was on making it modular, easy to hold, and able to interact with the user in a subtle, visual way.

Expandable capacity: 700ml to 1.5L

This concept explores a modular mid-section that allows the bottle to resize from 700ml to 1.5L. By unscrewing or attaching the central ring, users can adjust the capacity based on their needs throughout the day. Whether it's a light carry to work or full hydration for the gym, the idea was to create a flexible system that feels like two bottles in one without compromising simplicity or form.

Subtle LED hydration reminder

This concept explores the integration of a soft-glowing LED ring near the base of the bottle. Instead of relying on push notifications or screens, the light pulses gently at timed intervals to remind the user to hydrate. The glow is ambient and non-intrusive, designed to fit naturally into any environment whether at a desk, gym, or bedside table.

UV-C self-cleaning cap

This concept focuses on a UV-C light integrated inside the cap to automatically sanitize the inner surface of the bottle. The cleaning process activates when the cap is closed, reducing the need for manual cleaning and helping maintain hygiene throughout the day. It keeps the bottle low-maintenance and ideal for users with busy routines.

Silicone loop for better grip

This concept introduces a soft silicone loop integrated into the bottle’s upper body to improve grip and portability. The loop makes it easier to carry the bottle on the go, whether by hand or attached to a bag. It also adds a subtle tactile contrast to the matte body, reinforcing the product’s focus on comfort and usability.

USER INTERFACE DESIGN

After finalizing the physical product, I designed a companion app to complement the Morva smart bottle, aiming for an interface as premium, intuitive, and cohesive as the bottle itself. I added a subtle AI feature that gives daily personalized hydration advice based on user patterns. Using Figma, I created high-fidelity mockups with a dark, cinematic theme, Morva Blue accents, and clean, readable typography with clear hierarchy and ample spacing for usability.

LED Control

The screens balance functionality and emotion, encouraging hydration through subtle animations, glowing accents, and clear feedback. While currently static high-fidelity visuals, they effectively convey the intended experience, and the next step is to make them interactive for better testing and refinement.

Thank you for taking the time to explore my work on Morva. I know I still have a lot to learn, but I’m confident that it won’t take long. This project was just the beginning, and I’m excited to keep improving and pushing my skills further.

Thank you!
